Buena Park (/ΛbweΙͺnΙ/; buena, Spanish for "good") is a city in northern Orange County, California, United States. As of the 2020 census its population was 84,034. It is home to Knott's Berry Farm and lies about 12 miles (19 km) northwest of Santa Ana, within the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The area was once the Tongva village of Juyubit, located along Coyote Creek at the base of the West Coyote Hills. Juyubit was one of the largest villages in Tovaangar and thrived on acorns, seeds, rabbit, and mule deer, trading via trails to coastal and mountain settlements. The Spanish founded Mission San Gabriel in 1771, bringing hundreds from Juyubit for conversion and labor. High mortality followed, with three of four newborns dying before age two. In 1785β1786, Toypurina led a revolt involving Juyubit villagers, though it failed. In 1783, Manuel Nieto received a Spanish land grant later divided into ranchos, including Rancho Los Coyotes. The land shifted from Spanish to Mexican control in 1822, then to the U.S. in 1848, with California gaining statehood in 1850.
